Hey Y’all – or, Hey Everybody –
So since this is a weight loss blog I guess I need to talk about my progress, or lack there of. My weigh in this Thursday was totally lame-o, because I tracked, didn’t overeat and started going to the gym, and I gained .2 of a pound. Damnit! I was pissed at the scale, but…. oh well. Life goes on. Being fat for one more day will not ruin everything! I’m really liking my new gym – going to sit in the hottub after a workout is a little piece of heaven. I also got my first spa facial today (added the prefix SPA so the men reading this blog are less inclined to snicker….), and that in itself was this crazy epic skin adventure! I’ll probably write a separate post about it, cuz basically it was an intense face massage (felt good) and an upscale zit popping session! Interesting experience, for sure. But anyways, enough about this boring weight loss stuff (haha), today’s post is much more interesting thanks to KJPUGS! She posted a Dialect Vlog on her blog and I knew I had to do it!!
I have always had interesting comments about my voice because I was born in Chicago, lived in Florida for awhile, and now live in California. I occasionally slip back into my Chicago tone by saying things like “MAM! IT’S HAT OUTSIDE!” (Translation: Mom, it’s hot outside), and sometimes Matt teases me because I say “oh my gad”. (That long o, flattened with an A, is a Chicago trademark). But – my dad says I’m a valley girl, which is now true because I live in the San Fernando valley! If you watch KJPug’s video, you can already hear a few differences in things she says vs what I say – she lives in Indiana!
I also decided to do this because in a few weeks, I’m giving a lecture on social media at CSUN. I’m kind of scared because 150 people are invited to the event (EGADS!!!), and it’s going to be filmed and broadcast online. So – I figured this was good practice to get used to seeing my mug on the tube. Anyways – you should really do the video too – this is a really cool idea, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing it about on NPR pretty soon 😉
Here were the instructions:
Words to say: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
And the questions to answer are:
- What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
- What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
- What do you call gym shoes?
- What do you say to address a group of people?
- What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
- body and extremely long legs?
- What do you call your grandparents?
- What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
- groceries at the supermarket?
- What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
- What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Here I am – doesn’t my ficus tree look lovely? *random and nobody cares, but had to say it for personal satisfaction (I’m a big plant nerd)*
So come on – DO IT!!!! And don’t forget to let me know if you do – I can’t wait to see it!

I loooove! You had me smiling the whole time! I have heard Rolly Pollies before (spelling?) but my mom always called them pill bugs!!! I love that you say tennis shoes. That got me when I moved to NC… that, pop/coke, and BUGGIES! People call their shopping cart a buggy sometimes down there.
PS love that you asked your hubby 🙂 You guys are ADORABLE.
K now we need to be friends. Please move here. We will be BFF’s and I will water your gorgeous ficus and we can pet pugs and talk about our dialects!
