Tuesday Tidbits

Hello lovelies! How was your Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? I didn’t know I had the day off, and when I called in for my morning conference, myself and the other telecommuter were on the line by ourselves, when we received an e-mail that we were off for the day! That was a nice surprise! I spent my day off lazing about, working on my thesis, meeting some old friends for lunch and enjoying the company of OUR NEW KITTEN!

Our new kitten!

Meet Oliver! Oliver is nine weeks old and from the South Los Angeles shelter. We had originally met his little brother “Note” but Note was already claimed for adoption. I wrote on the shelter’s Facebook wall asking if they had any other kittens and VOILA, turns out Note had a brother! Oliver was originally named Cymbal, but we felt his playful spirit, curious nature and mischievous face deserved a cheeky name like Oliver. Isn’t he a little love? Our teenaged cat Lucia is not yet thrilled about his arrival, but I know in a few weeks they’ll be curled up together like old chums.

Walking to the grocery store!

Walking to the grocery store!

After a few weeks of recovering from jetlag and a cold, I was ready to get back into a fitness routine this weekend. As we drove Oliver home from the shelter Friday night, we were stopped at a red light when all of a sudden, BOOM! Another car slammed into my little car from behind, pushing us forward. We pulled off to the side and miraculously there was no damage, but I was feeling pretty shaken up after my first car accident (but nobody was hurt and it wasn’t my fault. Whew!). It’s really alarming how much you can feel the impact of being rear-ended – I felt the jolt from the base of my spine up through my neck. I took it easy the rest of the weekend as I felt kind of stiff and sore and didn’t want to push my luck. However, I made sure I got some activity and did some good, physical chores – like planting daffodil bulbs, weeding the garden and walking to the grocery store.

This week I have a couple fun things lined up for you – a sister/sister review of the FullBeauty Camisole Bra, a review and giveaway of the KalorieBox, and a recipe for Guacahummus, my newest snack obsession. I also need to figure out a new way to track my weight loss progress, because I want to “start over” with my weight loss goal and start counting down from the FULL amount of weight I need to lose. I originally said 50 pounds because that seemed like a doable, not scary number to achieve first. Now that I’m about 20-22 pounds in (depending on the day), I need to face the reality that I have much more than 30 pounds to go until I’m at a healthy weight and BMI. So watch for that in the next few weeks 🙂 Ok – I’m out for now, but I hope you had a wonderful, safe weekend!

Thailand 20 Tuesday – Week 3

Hello everybody! Hard to believe my third week of Thailand 20 Tuesday has come and gone. Lately I look at the calendar and think “WHERE DID 2012 GO?!” It’s been pretty wild how time keeps going faster and faster. I’m happy to report this week I lost 1.8 pounds! While it’s not quite my weekly goal of 2, it’s damn close and that’s just fine with me.

Last week I had a couple of things that helped me stay on track – like exercise! Here I am after an hour-long bootcamp class. I wanted to quit so many times, because this class was HARD – cardio, and then intense weight lifting in intervals. But each time I wanted to quit, I reminded myself that everything I’ve accomplished in my life has always been filled with those moments where you just want to stop. But you don’t stop – you keep going, and then eventually, that long, hard battle comes to an end and the victory is even sweeter.

I also ate pretty clean this week. Matt and I enjoyed delicious and rustic meals like grilled chicken breasts and roasted vegetables. I love meals like this because I can eat as many vegetables as I want!

I really focused on the protein this week. A lot of you know I’m not a big meat eater, and I probably eat vegetarian 80% of the week. I really tried to make sure I got protein somehow this week – like tonight, where in addition to three pieces of bacon (yummy), I made an egg white omelet packed with lots of fresh veggies. The egg whites help me get up there in the protein, and because it’s not meat, I don’t have that heavy feeling after. (PS: Breakfast for dinner? WINNER!)

This week I need to kick up the exercise even more, and stay focused on eating clean. There’s a few challenges in my way, like Halloween, but I’m determined to keep this trend moving downwards! Tomorrow, April has a great Halloween post about self-confidence, and then pretty soon we’ve got a chance for you to win a fancy new bra from our friends over at FullBeauty. I’ve also got a great review of my rad new scale from the kind people at EatSmart. Lots going on in Double Chin land! As always, thank you for reading – we wouldn’t be here without you! <3

FullBeauty.com Seamless Wirefree Leading Lady Bra Review

Seamless Wirefree Bra by Leading Lady at FullBeauty.com. Thanks to the lovely model for showing off my new bra – I’m much too shy to reveal my assets on the internet!

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday morning so far. So – do you remember my fitbloggin’ recap blog, in which I wrote about how nothing is impossible – except for finding a comfortable bra? Well – one of my lovely readers, Karen, works for FullBeauty.com – and offered to send me a free bra to help me change my mind! She and her team asked me a few questions about my girls, and I expressed to her my struggles with fit and fabric. She sent me 7 styles of bras to choose from, and I ended up choosing the Seamless Wirefree bra by Leading Lady. I’m not too particular about how my bras look -of course pretty is nice, but ultimately I need function over form, preferably without stabby, poky wires and annoying, scratchy lace.

The Leading Lady has microfiber molded seamless cups, “designed to give you a smooth, sleek look.” So far, so good. I’ve worn the bra for three days now and there’s no unsightly wrinkles or lines under my clothes. I opted for the pretty pale pink because I wanted something muted enough to wear under light colored shirts but to still stand out in my underwear drawer. I guess I’m not ALL function then, right?! 🙂

The material of the bra is super soft, and one of my favorite features so far is that instead of the standard three band settings (the little hook and wire thing – I don’t know what it’s called), there are four! This is perfect for me to wear and adjust gradually as I lose weight. The straps also change to your comfort level, and since I’m pretty tall with broad shoulders I always need to lengthen my straps.

I have to say that so far I’m impressed. Even more impressive is that I ordered the bra in my usual size, and the fit is dead on. This has always been one of my concerns about shopping for bras online – every brand seems a little bit different, but the Leading Lady line is true to size. My bra fits with no puckering, back bulge or the awful red marks under the breasts from the underwire. There’s even a cute little pintuck detail around the bottom.

Smokin’ Hot!

I’d like to thank Karen and the fullbeauty team – they may have just proved me wrong! I really recommend you check out the fullbeauty site – the prices are all extremely reasonable and much less expensive than Kohl’s or Macy’s. There are also really beautiful bras for plus-sized women, when we’re normally reduced to the basic over the shoulder boulder holders. I mean, look at this beauty – this the type of bra that isn’t really meant for daytime wear, if you catch my drift, but I’m sure wearing it in the day would add a little extra spring in your step!

There are also a bunch of coupon codes listed here to help you reduce shipping costs. In fact… I’m planning on buying a couple more items to keep my girls supported – the wirefree sports bra (on clearance for $9.88! SCORE!) and this camisole bra, which I’ve been eyeing for awhile and is a great price at $24.99.

So, now that I may have found a solution to my endless problems with bras – do any other ladies out there struggle finding the perfect fit? What’s usually the problem with yours?

PS: Congratulations to Troy, the winner of the case of PopChips! Thank you to everyone who entered – we’ll have more great giveaways soon!
